About the VCPH
The Victorian Consortium for Public Health was established in 1993 and comprises four partners:
- The Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at Monash University
- The School of Public Health at La Trobe University
- The Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences at Deakin University
- The School of Population Health at The University of Melbourne
The Consortium aims to support the enhancement of health in Australia and other countries through the development and implementation of high quality education, research, training and consultancy activities in public health. The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing has awarded the Consortium partners a grant under the Public Health Education and Research Program (PHERP) to aid in the development and ongoing teaching of this program.
The Consortium aims to promote excellence in Australian public health teaching by:
- providing a multi-disciplinary Master of Public Health course
- ensuring that graduates have a broad-based understanding of the determinants of health in populations
- including in the course a requirement for in-depth study and research in a relevant area of public health specialisation
- covering the spectrum of postgraduate education in public health from graduate diploma to PhD level
Our students’ experience is greatly enhanced through exposure to a broad range of health professionals with up-to-date experience in a wide variety of public health settings.
